What are Offer Letters?

For most people, the start of a new job includes a basic offer letter which includes things like the salary, the method of payment, the start date, the eligibility of benefits, time off, and conditions of employment.

However, if you’re getting an offer letter for an executive position, or if you’re in the financial, technology, or science field – you may have additional and complex issues that need to be addressed within your offer letter.

  • For executives – it’s likely that you’ll want to make sure your severance package is where you’d like it to be.
  • For those in the financial, technology or science fields – your new employer may have a lot of paperwork surrounding trade secrets and invention assignments, and it’s good to know exactly what you’re signing to protect yourself.
